An occupational lung disease bulletin issued by the Massachusetts Department of Health of Public Safety in April, 1998, reported more than 10 percent of the work-related asthma cases cited cleaning agents as the suspected asthma agent.  These cleaning agents included bleach, chlorine, floor stripper, ammonia, sodium hydroxide, muriatic acid detergents and disinfectants.

DIRECTIONS:

AIHA is located at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Dove Street in downtown Albany, one block west of the New York State Capitol.  From I-787 take Empire State Plaza exit; After emerging from Parking Garage overpass, bear right onto Swan Street.  Follow Swan Street three traffic lights to Elk Street. Turn left onto Elk Street.  1/4 mile-ish turn left into the AIHA parking lot.

 

PARKING:

AIHA offers limited parking for visitors in its lot on Elk and Dove Street.  During the week, metered parking is available on nearby streets and there are several lots and garages nearby.  On the weekends and evenings, ample free parking is available on the street.


BIOS

 

Tom Almeida – Director of Facilities in public schools for the last fifteen years – has focused on health and welfare issues for students and professional staff. His concern about chemical sensitivities came about as a result of a personal illness, which directed him to learn about how the body immune system works and what could be done to alleviate illnesses caused by lifestyle and environment.

 

Stan Halpern has long been a leading proponent and lecturer on Green Cleaning Alternatives and webmaster of a world recognized website. For the past thirty years, he has served the LI school, business, hospitality and institutional community – advising facility directors, executive housekeepers, professional cleaning contractors with their indoor environmental concerns.
