MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the EBA/NYS Sustainable Business Task is to establish a forum to promote a statewide movement towards sustainability in all business sectors. The task force believes that business practices must balance economic growth, social responsibility and effective use of natural resources to insure the viability of New York State for current and future generations.

·        Presentation: Corporate Sustainability Reporting: Creating Transparency through Communication: A Case Study with a CERES Reporting Company

Common to many corporations’ pursuit of sustainability is the development of transparency and outreach to stakeholders through public triple bottom line reporting.  First Environment, a New Jersey headquartered, strategic environmental management firm recently released its first CERES Sustainability Report.  James Wintergreen and Lauren Sandler of First Environment will discuss the background of this effort, share insights from development of the report, and describe benefits gained and lessons learned through the initiative.

Guest Speaker Bios:

 

James Wintergreen

James Wintergreen is an environmental strategist at First Environment with a background in environmental policy, economics and law.  His current activities include the development of corporate climate change strategies and GHG management programs, and technical and financial evaluations of GHG management projects.  Mr. Wintergreen also supports the firm’s environmental management system projects, especially those components that relate to corporate sustainability.    In 2002, Mr. Wintergreen attended the World Summit on Sustainable Development as a member on the delegation of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy.  Mr. Wintergreen is a graduate of Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment with a master’s degree in Environmental Management.

 

Lauren Sandler
Lauren Sandler
is an environmental specialist at First Environment with a background in business, environmental management and policy.  Her work primarily focuses on corporate sustainability initiatives, climate change strategy, environmental management systems, environmental compliance, corporate communications and marketing.  With regard to climate change and sustainability, Ms. Sandler has been integrally involved in the International Organization for Standardization’s development of a new standard for Measuring, Reporting and Verifying Greenhouse Gas Emissions.  Ms. Sandler holds a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental policy and behavior from the University of Michigan. She also holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Master of Environmental Policy and Management degree from University of Denver.
