The mission of the EBA/NYS Brownfields Task Force is to
advocate for state policy initiatives and programs designed to foster and maximize
brownfield redevelopment opportunities for EBA members, and the State of New York in
general. New York State remains behind our
sister northeast states in brownfield redevelopment initiatives and incentives. EBA and this task force has played, and shall
continue to play, a key role in the state brownfield arena.
The task force will pursue its mission with the
following initiatives:
1.
Lobby Day Event 2003 Legislative Session
designed to meet the legislators interested in promoting Brownfield Legislation.
2.
Task Force Event
3.
2003 Brownfield Conference
Current News Items/Undertakings of the Brownfields Task
Force
1.
In March 2002, EBA sponsored an extremely successful
brownfield conference, held at C.W. Post University on Long Island. Key policy makers, such as Nassau County Executive
Tom Suozzi, issued strong advocacy statements such as Brownfields is the issue
facing New York State. Brownfields is
clearly one of the most important economic development issues facing our state, and
impacting our members business growth. The
task force members generally believe a balance must be struck between environmental
protection and restoration of resources previously impacted by our industrial practices of
the past. Advocating for the correct balance
in our states policy continues to be our challenge one the task force is
prepared to confront and facilitate.
2.
The task force will begin to communicate through
e-mail and other electronic means in 2003, which should increase communication between and
among its members.
